HACCP & ISO 22000 compliant entry

Food Processing

Personnel entry to food-production areas is a key food-safety control point. A correctly configured hygiene station makes hand and footwear hygiene mandatory and auditable.

Hygiene Scenario

The hygiene scenario in food processing

Within a HACCP and ISO 22000 framework, staff entry requires a controlled crossing to reduce the microbial load carried into the production area.

  • Staff and visitor circulation is the main route of cross-contamination from outside into the production area.

  • Blocking passage until hand disinfection and sole cleaning are done creates a documentable control point for audits.

  • A turnstile crossing makes it physically impossible to skip the hygiene step.

  • An AISI 304 stainless body resists corrosion in the frequently washed, humid food environment.

The compliance framework in food processing

  • HACCP prerequisite programme (PRP): the Codex Alimentarius General Principles of Food Hygiene treat adequate, suitably located hand-washing facilities at production entrances as part of good hygiene practice. They do not name a device; a hygiene station turns the requirement into a mandatory, auditable crossing.
  • ISO 22000:2018 and ISO 22002-1:2025: personnel hygiene facilities, entry control and hygienically designed equipment sit inside the prerequisite programmes. A sensor-verified turnstile crossing gives the auditor objective evidence instead of a "hands were washed" statement.
  • BRCGS and IFS Food: demanded by retail chains, these standards require hand washing, hand disinfection and footwear hygiene to be actually performed at the entrance to production. Because the turnstile does not release until the step is complete, the step can be shown not to have been skipped.
  • Turkish Food Codex Regulation and Food Hygiene Regulation: personnel hygiene, protective clothing and hand-washing facilities are defined obligations for food businesses in national legislation; the equipment choice should be documented against these requirements.
  • Audit evidence and maintenance records: the station’s disinfectant dosing, sensor operation and brush condition should be verified with a periodic checklist. Dated maintenance and cleaning records are the evidence, presentable in an audit, that the prerequisite programme actually works, and they turn the equipment into an auditable control point.

Recommended entry configuration

For a typical food-processing entrance the line we recommend is built from three units according to personnel flow and floor soiling; the lane count is confirmed by facility measurement of the peak flow at shift start.

  • HGE-L — footbath, washbasin, fully equipped: brings the sensor-operated hand washbasin, dual-hand disinfection, disinfectant footbath and PPE dispenser onto one line; suitable for passage in both directions, it is the backbone of the main personnel entrance.
  • DSE-EB — boot brush, washbasin: combines sole brushing on the move with a sensor-operated hand washbasin; in preparation and wet-process areas organic residue reaches the floor, so motorized brushes are needed instead of a footbath.
  • LVS-L2 — floor-standing, 2-station sensor-operated hand washbasin: relieves the station’s own washbasin at shift start and keeps washed hands from touching the tap or dispenser again; sensor water and soap dosing are set to the facility’s procedure.
  • In addition: for busy shifts a second lane or a one-way exit turnstile separates entry and exit flows, preventing passage in the wrong direction and recontamination.

FAQ

Common questions in this sector

Is a hygiene station mandatory for HACCP?

HACCP does not mandate a specific device; it requires cross-contamination risk at personnel entrances to be controlled. A hygiene station is a practical way to make the required steps mandatory and auditable.

Which hygiene station model fits my food plant?

It depends on headcount, corridor width and the sole-cleaning need. Busy entries usually call for full-spec models with a sink, sole pool and turnstile.

Which hygiene steps should a staff entry include?

A typical sequence is hand washing, hand disinfection, sole cleaning and a turnstile crossing. Which steps are mandatory is set by the facility’s risk level and audit requirements.
